Announcing our thrilling 2016 season!!

Tweed and Company Theatre is ecstatic to announce our 9th anniversary season, and our 7th at the Marble Arts Centre in Tweed! Our 2016 season is our most ambitious to date, with many incredible productions and new works for our audience to enjoy.

Over the past several years Tweed & Co. has been overjoyed to bring high quality professional live theatre to Hastings County, and this year will be no exception. Coming off our incredibly successful and critically acclaimed 2015 season, we knew this year had to pack a punch, and we are sure this incredible package of plays will not disappoint!

Our first production of 2016 is a new musical being created by the Tweed & Company ensemble, THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING. This show will centre around the thrilling, world changing events of the 60’s, and will feature all of your favourite songs of those days, including music by Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and more! The glory days of television, the space race, and the Vietnam war were just some of the events that made this the defining decade of our generation, and this production will both celebrate those events, and remind us of the peril of repeating history. We are truly honoured to be presenting this production as a co-fundraiser with the TWEED REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE to assist in their fundraising to support a Syrian refugee family. Theatre is a medium dedicated to social justice and positive world change, and we are incredibly passionate about this project, and overjoyed to be working with this inspiring and remarkable group of volunteers. All proceeds from this production will be split evenly between our two groups. This show will feature an incredible cast of six of Canada’s best rock and musical theatre performers, and will be the perfect mothers day present, date night, or friends night out! THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING will play at the Marble Arts Centre in Tweed on May 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM. All tickets will be $20.00. Doors will open at 6:30. be sure to join us before and after the show and at intermission for a drink or a snack at our bar, to bid on our silent auction, and to learn more about these two incredible organizations! Tickets online at, or in person at the Tweed News.

For our second production, we are very excited to announce a huge programming COUP for Tweed & Co., a first for our group, and a first for the area. SALT WATER MOON will make it’s professional debut in Hastings County from July 20th to 24th at the Marble Arts Centre in Tweed. This show marks the first fully produced PLAY that our company will present (That is, not a musical) although the show will feature some stunning new instrumentations being created by the Tweed and Company ensemble. The show is Canada’s most produced and most successful straight play, and has seen incredibly successful productions across the country and around the world, including a run right now at the Factory theatre in Toronto. The play takes place in Newfoundland. It’s a splendid moon-filled night in Coley’s Point in

1926. Eighteen-year-old Jacob Mercer has returned from Toronto to this tiny Newfoundland outport, hoping to win back his former sweetheart, Mary Snow. But Mary has become engaged to wealthy Jerome McKenzie, and she is still hurt and bewildered by Jacob’s abrupt departure a year earlier. She will not be easily wooed…

Salt-Water Moon won the 1985 Canadian Authors Association Literary Award for Drama, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play, the Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics’ Award, and was a finalist for the 1985 Governor-General’s Award for Drama.

“On Thursday night, I saw Salt-Water Moon at Factory Theatre. On Friday morning, I woke up and the first thing I did was buy tickets to go see it again.”

-J. Kelly Nestruck, The Globe and Mail

Salt Water Moon is sure to delight all audiences, and is a massive step in Tweed & Company’s progression into a successful year round professional theatre company. We are overjoyed to be presenting this Canadian classic at the ideal venue for this show, the Marble Arts Centre. Tickets are available online at, and in person at the Tweed news. Don’t miss this truly beautiful play, in a new production that will raise the bar for live theatre in Hastings County.

Also returning this season is our favourite night of music, laughter, and dance, THE DARK NIGHT CABARET! This one night only presentation which Tweed & Co began in our 2010 season has been absent for a few years, and we are thrilled to be bringing back this evening of fun! During our run of SALT WATER MOON, the actors from that production, as well as several of our most popular ensemble members, and some local talent, will take the stage to present a one night only evening of special skills, hidden talents, crowd favourites, original pieces, and Broadway Standards. The Dark Night Cabaret is a one night only, created in the moment, unlike anything else spectacle that had been a huge favourite of our audiences in the past and we are thrilled to be bringing it back this year.

And finally, later on in the year we will be announcing a very special SECRET MUSICAL for the fall that is sure to delight our local audience, and bring in tourism patrons from far and wide. Stay tuned for more info on that!
